On 23rd July, Michiko Shimanuki will be playing my ‘Lost in Translation’. This is one of seven Haydn Fantasies for piano commissioned by the Presteigne Festival from seven composers in 2009 in celebration of pianist/composer John McCabe’s 70th birthday. The concert is part of the Square Mile Music Series, St Mary-at-Hill, London 1.15 pm
Dryad dyad
The exciting Portuguese Dryads Duo (named after Szymanowski’s ‘Dryads et Pan’) played my ‘Cortège?’ at Music & Wine at St Luke’s on Friday 21st June, plus works by Prokofiev and Frank Bridge.

‘At Two’
In their extraordinarily wide-ranging new CD of music for two violas, Peter Mallinson and Matthias Wiesner include works by Bach, Benda, Bridge, Dowland, Schubert, Tertis and Vitali. Arrangers include Lionel Tertis himself and Vadim Borisovsky. My own (very demanding!) piece on the CD, ‘At Two’, was commissioned by Peter and Matthias and they give it everything! The CD is available from Meridian Records and Amazon.
John Hawkins studied composition with Malcolm Williamson and Elisabeth Lutyens. He has written a wide range of chamber, vocal, choral and orchestral pieces, which have been performed worldwide.
